From Philadelphia to the Spotlight
Originally from the Philadelphia and South Jersey area, Craig's journey into entertainment took shape long before he became a familiar presence on casino stages.
At just 24 years old, he owned his first nightclub, gaining firsthand experience in the world of live music and hospitality. It was an early chapter that placed him at the intersection of two worlds: the performer onstage and the people responsible for creating an exceptional evening for their guests.
In 1993, an observation from fellow musicians helped change the direction of his career. Craig's voice bore a striking resemblance to Neil Diamond's, and the comparisons inspired him to explore the emerging world of tribute entertainment.
Drawing upon his connections within Philadelphia's music community, he assembled a backing band and developed a dedicated Neil Diamond tribute performance. The act found an enthusiastic local following and became the foundation of a career that would eventually take him across the country.
What began with one artist's music soon evolved into something considerably broader.
A Career Across America's Entertainment Stages
Craig's talents took him from the East Coast to the entertainment capitals of Las Vegas, Atlantic City, and beyond.
As a featured tribute performer with the Hollywood Superstars revue, he brought his interpretations of Neil Diamond and Engelbert Humperdinck to casino audiences across multiple states.
His performance history includes engagements at the Gold Coast in Las Vegas, Hollywood Casino in Tunica, Mississippi, Bluffs Run Casino in Council Bluffs, Iowa, and the former Trump Taj Mahal in Atlantic City.
His career also brought opportunities to share the stage with prominent names in entertainment.
Among the most distinctive was his work with former heavyweight boxing champion “Smokin'” Joe Frazier, performing and serving as master of ceremonies with Joe Frazier and the Knockouts. Craig's résumé also includes appearing as an opening act for celebrated soul singer Ben E. King at the New York Hilton.
His versatility extended beyond music alone. Craig hosted a Neil Diamond radio program on Philadelphia's WNJC 1360 AM and appeared in the weekly television variety program The Sonny and CC Show, combining singing, hosting, and comedy.
More Than a Singer
Throughout his career, Craig has demonstrated the ability to move comfortably between the intimacy of a lounge performance and the presentation demands of larger public events.
He has performed the National Anthem for the Philadelphia 76ers and South Jersey polo audiences, appeared at a national political convention in Philadelphia, and served as an entertainer and master of ceremonies for civic and charitable functions.
His involvement with organizations supporting heart health, liver health, ALS research, and victims of domestic violence reflects another dimension of his entertainment history.
Whether presenting a classic ballad, hosting an event, or delivering a tribute performance, Craig draws upon a breadth of experience that few single-format acts can offer.
The Music Lives On in Las Vegas
Today, based in Las Vegas, Craig continues to celebrate the songs and performers that made the golden eras of popular music so enduring.
His repertoire moves comfortably through classic standards, swing, big band favorites, and the beloved hits of the 1960s, 1970s, and 1980s.
It's a musical journey that can begin with Sinatra, move through the unmistakable emotion of Neil Diamond, and finish with the commanding energy of Tom Jones.
For Craig, the stage has never been limited to recreating famous voices. It is about presenting great songs with personality, style, and an appreciation for the audiences who still love them.
Craig Michael Canter brings more than classic music to an evening. He brings the experience of someone who has spent decades making a living from the art of entertainment.
And when the microphone is in his hand, those timeless songs have another opportunity to take center stage.
